Just discovered that leaving z-index there for .modal-backdrop and reducing its value to 80 allowed both SimGallery and my SourceCoast login module to work. Yay!
Overall, you were right about z-index but I could not remove it as suggested. It needed to be reduced instead.
We still have the Mootools page error to deal with but I've about had it. It is working for now! show less

OK - I enabled Mootools again and the page error went away but the add photo pop-up still does not work.

I am getting frustrated here - none of your solutions are working, I am not a programmer and it seems there are compatibility issues with your component.

The template I am using is new, authored by a respected leader in the industry. Joomla is up to date - everything works except the Photo and Album add window.

You are the expert with your component - what can we do to get you working on this to fix it? Please let me know. show less

No, I've tried all your suggested changes to no avail. I've changed it back as we have been miscommunicating on several levels.
It just dawned on me that is supposed to be a modal pop-up and it is "popping" below the modal.
Is this due to the error on the page?

Editing .modal-backdrop {display:none !important;} will not work.
My login module uses it. Was able to adjust z-index. show less

Just ran into a show-stopper for using another template - internal links still open up in the default template, so that workaround won't work.
I do need to understand the full screen issue though, please explain a little why this can't open in a page container. show less

I now have the Add Photo/Album opening in another template (Protostar) via a menu link specifying the template. My existing template is very recent from joomlashine.com - template name is Dona.

It still does not feel like a good solution - I'll edit the new template obviously but why does the Add photo/Add album NOT stay inside the bounds of the template? The form should be contained in the content box as shown here: https://www.screenca[...].com/t/0cZdxKDV

How can I change this? Don't you have a container for it so it does not go full screen like this? show less

BTW - As I was removing the z-index values, then the underlying bootstrap modal, then I found that the entire add album page is not even totally there. AND the buttons did not work either.

So I did uncover the form - only to find it does not work! show less

As I was playing around, trying to understand the z-index, it dawned on me that your Add Photo and Add Album form functions are not enclosed by the Joomla content - that is the root problem of this issue. Customizing my template to fit is bound to just cause more problems.

Your Galleries show very nicely inside the Joomla content - why are the Add Photo and Add Album forms any different?
